Siemensstadt Square
Siemensstadt Square Moving with the times
Siemensstadt Square is a project that shows how industrial structural change can succeed in the city of the future. An idea that has its origins in the founding concept of 1897 is being continued on 76 hectares: the combination of work, research and living in a livable district.
Development area and planning figures
- 1 million m² gross floor area
- of which 190,000 m² production area
- Transformation of approx. 250,000 m² of listed building stock
- 2,700 apartments (30% rent-based)
- 6,000 residents
The site aims to create an ecosystem of digital technology partners that provides an ideal infrastructure for research and development institutions as well as digital industry and technology companies. Application-oriented and right in the heart of the hybrid city.
An innovation ecosystem is already emerging on the site that brings science, industry and entrepreneurship together: Starting with the Werner von Siemens Centre for Industry and Science (WvSC), which works with more than 28 partners from science and industry on innovative, practical solutions for the transformation of production, energy and mobility.
A climate-friendly energy supply, sustainable and multi-modular mobility solutions and integrated rainwater management are planned for the intelligently networked district of the future. Siemensstadt Square will be operated CO2 neutral. The overall urban design concept was pre-certified twice with "Platinum" in 2020: both by the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (German Sustainable Building Council) and the US LEED system.
