In Lichtenberg, metropolitan flair in locations close to the city meets rural idyll on the outskirts. The district is in parts a historically evolved industrial location with several original and modern commercial centers as well as a well-developed infrastructure and transport connections.
Almost 30 percent of its area is recreational, agricultural, forest and water areas. Lichtenberg is the first Berlin district to be certified as a “family-friendly municipality”.
